About the Online Editions

The Coronavirus outbreak is rapidly changing our planning and orientations as the world is trying to cope with COVID-19 and face its consequences and challenges. At the Policy Center for the New South, we have decided to embrace the digital opportunities brought forth by the pandemic to offer a virtual alternative to the Atlantic Dialogues conference. The Policy Center for the New South has put together online AD Sessions for 2020 and 2021, adapting the format to the digital realm.

What are the Atlantic Dialogues?

16th best worldwide conference organized by a think tank, according to the Global Go-To index 2020 (by Pennsylvania university). This annual meeting has been initiated in 2012 by the Policy Center for the New South and the German Marshall Fund of the United States. The conference is organized since 2017 by the Policy Center for the New South, 1st think tank in North Africa and 7th in the Middle East North Africa Region (MENA).

Changing mental maps and offering a platform for dialogue between the North and South Atlantic. With its 450 guests from more than 60 nationalities, the Atlantic Dialogues conference represents a unique opportunity to witness an open dialogue amongst countries in the wider Atlantic space.

The annual baseline report Atlantic Currents is published on the first day of each Atlantic Dialogues’ edition. In this publication, researchers and experts from the Policy Center for the New South’s network analyze the state of Africa and the world with respect to the conference theme.

Conversing on equal terms and creating space for youth. Each year, about 50 Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders (ADELs) from across the Atlantic area, follow a two-day tailored leadership program prior the Atlantic Dialogues conference, which they join as participants.

What are Atlantic Currents ?

This is an annual reference publication on the state of the world from a Southern perspective. Since 2014, the report is published on the first day of the conference. The topics correlate with the themes discussed during the Atlantic Dialogues.

A collective report of more than 200 pages written by the Policy Center for the New South’s researchers, partners and renowned experts, taking stock of the situation of the Atlantic space in a changing world and proposing solutions aiming at a better integration.

This year’s Atlantic Currents will focus on the 10th edition of the Atlantic Dialogues’ theme “A Wider Atlantic in a Challenging Recovery”.

What are Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders?

An annual selection of 50 Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders (ADELs) aged 23 to 35, from the Wider Atlantic space and working in various sectors (research, public and private sector, civil society).

A tailored two-day program prior the Atlantic Dialogues conference on leadership-related topics, mentored by high-level speakers.

Active participation to the Atlantic Dialogues Conference. The Policy Center for the New South makes room for young professionals and promotes the inter-generational dialogue. The conference invites the next generation of leaders to interact with all participants.

Opportunities throughout the year : ADEL alumni are invited to participate to conferences with the Policy Center for the New South’s partners around the world, and to write reviews for the think tank.
