Atlantic Dialogues: A Unique Conference With a North-South Blend
Since its inception in 2012, the Atlantic Dialogues (AD) conference, organized annually by the Policy Center for the New South, has become a leading forum for addressing critical geopolitical, socio-economic, and security challenges across the Atlantic region. Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the conference brings together over 400 senior officials, business leaders, academics, opinion shapers, and civil society actors from around 80 countries, spanning Africa, the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean. AD provides a platform for high-level dialogue, promoting balanced, inclusive discussions to address pressing global issues and foster South-North cooperation.
From Reasoned Engagement to Transforming Policy
The Atlantic Dialogues, held in an era of profound uncertainty, embodies reasoned, high-level engagement, offering a platform for thoughtful insights and rigorous analysis of the challenges shaping the Atlantic Basin and the world. It serves as a space for evidence-based dialogue that influences public policy and drives meaningful change. More than just a conference, it is a call to action, guiding the Policy Center for the New South in advancing the aspirations of the New South on the global stage. The conference is committed to transforming discussions into actionable policy recommendations and remains a safe space for cultivating relationships and collaboration to address the challenges of our time.
Changing Mental Maps: Fostering an Inclusive and Assertive Atlantic
The Atlantic Dialogues, held in Morocco, draws on the country’s strategic position and strong ties with all Atlantic-bordering nations to elevate the South Atlantic in global geopolitical discussions. The conference brings together voices from Africa, the Americas, and Europe to shape the future of the Atlantic, amplify Southern perspectives, and encourage multilateral cooperation. As global power dynamics shift, AD underscores the need for a more inclusive, diverse Atlantic space, reflecting the growing influence of the New South in global decision-making. It also addresses challenges in international relations, from economic and democratic pressures to environmental issues, focusing on the rebalancing of North-South relations in the 21st century.
Launch of the Annual Atlantic Currents Report
Each year, the Atlantic Dialogues is accompanied by the release of Atlantic Currents, a flagship publication in which analysts from Africa, Europe, and the Americas provide insights on the political, economic, security, and cultural dynamics shaping the Wider Atlantic region. The report explores the evolving geostrategy and geoeconomics of the Atlantic, highlighting opportunities for deeper Afro-Atlantic cooperation. It addresses critical issues such as economic integration, social development, and regional security, offering actionable solutions to enhance stability and foster sustainable growth.
Intercontinental and Intergenerational Dialogue
A defining feature of the Atlantic Dialogues is its commitment to fostering intergenerational dialogue. Through the Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders (ADEL) program, young professionals from across the Atlantic basin are given a platform to engage with policymakers and decision-makers. The ADEL program continues to nurture a vibrant community of young leaders, enriching the diversity of leadership and ideas across the region. This intergenerational approach enhances the dynamism of the dialogue and contributes to shaping a more inclusive future.
