J. Peter Pham
Nominated in 2018 as US Special Envoy in the Great Lakes. Prior to joining the Atlantic Council in 2011, the Africa Center of which he is also the Director, he was a professor of justice studies, political science and african studies at James Madison University (Virginia, USA), and Director of the Nelson Institute for International and Public Affairs. From 2008-17, he was Vice President of the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) and was founding Editor-in Chief of its quarterly Journal of the Middle East and Africa. In 2015, he was elected to the Board of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, of which he is presently Vice-Chair.
