Torsten Thiele is an ocean finance expert who launched Global Ocean Trust in 2014 and helped set up the Blue Natural Capital Finance Facility in 2018. He draws on over 20 years experience in project and infrastructure finance and capital markets with leading international banks. Torsten is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (Potsdam), a Visiting Fellow at the LSE Institute of Global Affairs, a Senior Advisor to the IUCN Blue Natural Capital Financing Facility and a Member of the Scientific Committee of the Ocean-Climate Platform. Recent publications address innovative High Seas finance, Blue bonds, Deep sea governance and Ocean climate finance. He holds graduate degrees in law and economics from Bonn University, an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and an MPhil in Conservation Leadership from the University of Cambridge.
